HONEYMOON

Planning a honeymoon

Planning a honeymoon to Italy can be very exciting but with so much to do and see, your research can become rather overwhelming. I believe that customized trips are the best as they will suit your desires, interests and needs.

Here are my suggestions to follow when planning your vacation:

  1. DATES – Always start with dates. If you know the period of travelling it becomes easier to choose location/cities you would like to visit. You wouldn’t come to Capri in January when the weather is awful and almost impossible to get there. Think of your priority – beaches, islands, countrysides or sightseeing.
  2. PLACES TO VISIT – Once you know the dates,  decide how much time you would like to spend in each city you wish to visit. Italy is amazing and you could spend days and days in each place.
  3. SET A BUDGET – It may be an annoying part and make you feel limited. But think positively. The secret is – plan ahead. Keep in mind that you can avoid paying full price when booking in advance. Lets say you have $5000. Convert it to Euros and divide by days. Then you’ll get an approximate rate you can spend daily.
  4. CONTACT A SPECIALIZED PERSON – I call it a stress-free trip planning. This is because you can save money and time. Such a person arranges various models of transportation, knows about hotel deals or booking discounts. Their target is to do everything that can meet your travel needs.
  5. BOOK TICKETS – Now, when you (more less) know your dates, go and check the flights to reach Italy. Again, booking in advance is higly recommended. If you are visiting different cities in Italy you may either consider travelling by train, rent a car or hire a private chauffeur.
  6. CHECK DOCUMENTS – Check your passports and obtain visas if necessary. Ladies, if you plan to change your name wait till the honeymoon is over. The official name change may require time and you must notify the appropriate government agencies. Plus, a name change on a plane ticket could incur charges.
  7. TRAVEL INSURANCE – Purchasing travel insurance is a good idea if one of you have health issues or if you are concerned about your safety, etc. You should consider: trip cancellation insurance, travel health insurance and medical insurance.
  8. ACCOMMODATION – Researching hotels, checking room availability and reserving a room is not an easy part. Remember that you do not want to rush when honeymooning, take your time and relax. Pick a suite where you will find all your comfort. Check if the properties offer suites ideal for honeymoon accommodation. You know, … romantic overviews, special service that includes a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine on your arrival or any other treats that only honeymooners are entitled to.
  9. ITINERARY – Combine a relaxing stay with Italian adventure and you will have the ideal mix for a perfect honeymoon. Exploring Italy is always an exciting time. You may love visiting historical sites, art galleries, islands, vineyards, markets or trattorias. (See yyy to read my tips for exploring Rome and discovering best places to stay, eat and visit.)
  10. ACTIVITIES – If you choose Italy for your honeymoon, you definitely want to do some activites. Jot down some ideas you and your partner would love to do. In case you are not sure of what you can actually do in Italy, read my ideas or musts to get some inspiration. They are immense.)
  11. RELAX – Be good to yourselves and include a romantic spa treatment on your list. Enjoy your time togheter, take a bath of milk and rose petals and fragrance of essential oils that will leave you feeling like a Roman emporer.
  12. PICK-UP SERVICE – Consider a pick up service from the airport to your hotel and vice versa. Do not forget exchange about 50-100 Euros as you may be asked to pay in cash.
  13. PACKING – Love is all you need! Just kidding. Make your packing list according to weather. Check the weather forcast at http://www.accuweather.com/en/it/italy-weather. Buy what you need and make sure you have all you can’t live without.
  14. CLOSER TO DEPARTURE – Make sure your family or a friend have the following: a copy of your passport, credit cards, ID cards, driving licence anything you and them would need in case of loosing or steeling your wallet, A copy of your itinerary and house keys in case of emergency or watering plants. Do the same: have a copy of your important ID cards, etc. Check you have all necessary phone numbers and addresses to contact in case of emergency. Have a copy of your itinerary. Set up a vacation auto-response in mail. Label your luggage with your name, hotel address and phone numbers in order to find you in case your luggage gets lost.
  15. ONE DAY AHEAD – Set your alarm clock and sleep well 🙂
